Every question runs on the clock. Students get a short thinking window that you choose, then the camera starts recording on its own. There is no pause button, and the clock keeps running if the student switches windows, so a quick search costs time they don't have.

What instructors and IT teams ask first

Does the AI decide the final grade?
The AI suggests a score for each rubric criterion and quotes the part of the transcript it relied on. By default, students see nothing until you review and release their grade, and low-confidence results are always held for you. You can adjust or override any score before releasing it.
How do the timers keep students from looking up answers?
Each question appears only when the student reaches it. A short thinking window that you set counts down, then the camera starts recording automatically, and the recording stops when the response time runs out. The overall exam clock runs on our servers, so refreshing the page never adds time, and answers uploaded after time runs out are rejected.
What do students need?
A laptop, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone, and a current browser. There is nothing to install. A device check runs before the exam starts, and students can warm up with practice questions, so technical problems surface early.
Who can see a student's recording?
Only the student who recorded it, the instructor of that class, and your institution's administrators. Recordings sit in private storage and play through short-lived links that expire within an hour.
Is VoiceExam FERPA-friendly?
VoiceExam is designed to support FERPA. We act as a school official under your institution's direct control, use student records only to provide the service, never sell student data or use it to train AI models, and delete data at your institution's request. A Data Processing Agreement is available.
Does it work with our LMS?
Grades export as a CSV file that imports into Canvas, Blackboard, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, and other gradebooks. Direct LTI 1.3 integration with roster sync and grade passback is in development, so tell us if it matters for your rollout.
Can I give students accommodations?
Yes. From the class roster, set extended time (1.25x to 3x) for any student, and it applies to thinking time, response time, and the overall exam limit. Students can also warm up with practice questions and instant feedback before the real exam.
